WHATS SELLING NOW: REDEEM US

Redeem US is one of the hottest boutiques in the nation’s capital, selling all our favorite brands and doing fun things with the local creative community. We caught up with the owner, Lori who shared her best sellers with us.
What’s selling? Spring best sellers include Endovanera’s Shant, Fremont’s Check Shirt, Wrath Arcane’s Strap Shirt, and Anzevino & Florence’s Color Change Tank and Flip Cardigan.
What are you looking forward to for fall? For Fall we’re really looking forward to adding B.Son to our brand arsenal.  We’re also super excited for Wrath Arcane’s new jewelry collection-- and their outerwear always does extremely well.   Where do you go to find newness for your store?  I like to look online at style blogs, etc…  Many times brands hear about our store and contact us, which is excellent!   And of course, I always scope out who’s at shows like (capsule).

 HOLLA! Pics after the jump.

SEAVEES ONLINE SHOP NOW OPEN

A few weeks ago we introduced you to a new shoe brand, called Seavees. The brand offers 4 great styles, all names after auspicious dates in California cultural history. The 05/66 recalls the month when the Beach Boys released their first album, while the 07/64 is named for the month when the Porsche 911 was invented. Inspired by the eames Chaise, the 01/68 has perforated leather uppers, and the 10/68 is all about Steve McQueen’s style and refers to the release date of the film Bullitt. Each style is being released in super limited quantities, and the good news is that now you can buy the shoes on line at Seavees.com. better get yourself a pair before these dates expire.

BAD BRAINS AND SUPREME

Supreme has been doing some pretty interesting collaborations lately. We recently reported on the Marilyn Minter skate decks. This month Supreme is going head to head with Bad Brains, releasing a limited collection of tees, a Harrington jackets and a Vans Sk-8 hi inspired by the seminal hard core punk band.  Bad Brains had a huge impact on skate culture so it’s only natural that the brand team up with the band for a capsule collection. The collection drops today so get while it’s still in stock! Pics after the jump.

YMC ON NEW DANDYISM

Formed in London in 1995 by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins in response to increasing demand for stylish, functional, modern clothing. YMC has quietly grown to a highly significant design label. When asked how he saw the future of design, graphic artist Raymond Loewy, pioneer of American Industrial Design reasoned that “you must create your own design style”, it is this philosophy that inspires YMC. The spring collection features some great outerwear and light sweaters, all of which is available now on New Dandyism. Check it out here.

BRANDS WE LOVE: BIJULES

I think its pretty safe to say that I like to talk-- a lot. Not that its a bad thing; I'm just not afraid to speak what's on my mind. That may be the reason I'm in love with Bijules. I mean, I like for my jewelry to be as brazen as I am, and Jules Kim's line is certainly one filled with statement pieces.

TARA SUBKOFF FOR BEBE

This time of year, most of us are pretty much broke; between the wads of cash that we so generously spent on people we really couldn't afford to, and the amazing "deals" on fabulous items we couldn't even dream about buying before the season was over (not that they aren't probably still overpriced) there's hardly anything left for... Valentine's Day!

So it warms my heart (or maybe that's just the extra insulation from the dough lining my pockets,) to know that Tara Subkoff is doing a line for Bebe! I mean sure, she leant her name to Easy Spirit before, but those shoes were way too editorial, and nowhere near reasonably priced. This time around, however, the prices range from $59-$189. The feel is very '40s, with a hint of pinup. I can't wait to add the Ruffled Wrap Dress to my collection of "fabulous and (subsquently) memorable items" that I can, for that reason, only wear a handful of times. But its the "nature of the beast," I suppose. Besides, a portion of the proceeds goes to charity. See, we all win!

COUNTDOWN TO CAPSULE: NO MAS

The best labor is always the labor of love, and I'm sure no designer knows this better than Chris Isenberg of No Mas. The journalist turned sportswear designer stuck with what he knew when he started the label back in 2004. Creating items that are neither trend fad, nor trend driven, he has been able to parlay his passion for sports into a label that knows no age or season.

But don't be confused; although the brand is stocked by stores notorious for carrying some of the biggest names in streetwear, not by any means does the label fall into that category. He doesn’t ‘do’ streetwear. Actually, its quite the opposite, the Oxford graduate tells me of his line, whose very marketable nostalgia keeps orders pouring in from boutiques like Bodega, and The Reed Space.

REQUIRED READ: BEST OF BRANDS 2007

SlamxHype has really impressed us with a new feature called The Best of Brands 2007. The editors intereviewed 19 of the most influential people in the neo-streetwear scene, like Fraser Cooke, Chris Gibbs and Jared Reynolds about what their favorite brands are and why. Not surprisingly, Visvim got plenty of shout outs, with brands like WTaps, Phenomenon, Undercover and Junya Watanabe getting plenty of attention as well. It's a great read. Get on it and see who the style leaders of the evolution of streetwear will be for 2008.
