INTERVIEW WITH TIM HAMILTON

East Village Boys has a really fun and in-depth interview with Tim Hamilton. There are also some awesome pictures of Tim through the years that you shouldn’t miss (Miami 1991, helloooo!!!!) “ We first fell for New York-based designer Tim Hamilton at his presentation last February during New York fashion week. We’ve been trying to pin him down since then, and somewhere in between visiting his factories in Japan and Italy, moving his home, selling-out his first UNIQLO collection, and getting nominated for a CFDA award for the second time in his two-year career, he squeezed us in. Personally, I think he’s destined to dress every East Village boy from here to Tokyo.” Read the rest and see the pics here.

Q&A: Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air

It's pretty safe to say that when searching for the pulse of New York's social scene, one doesn't have to look much further than the gentrified streets of the LES. Sure, you can hit midtown to shop. And sure you can shmooze at mixers with "old-money", but you'll find nary a Banksy sighting, and even fewer like-minded people (probably because they're all at Off Bowery or The Delancey). And few people know the scene better than Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air. Whether he's co-hosting a party with Roxy Cottontail, or chillin' with Vashtie at a 1992 affair, Oliver has become a part of the backdrop of the new LES scene. I caught up with him to chat about his much buzzed about line, the kids from around the way and what's next for Hood By Air.

Q&A: JASON CHEECH HALL

Jason Cheech Hall, owner of Format, one of the coolest boutiques in Queens stopped by the showroom the other day and we got to chatting. If you haven’t been shopping in the outer boroughs lately, Format offers locals a little taste of the Manhattan experience: with a brand roster that includes The Hundreds, MHI, Nudie, Pegleg, and Accomplice.  But the store is just his side hustle: he also has a day job, working as a denim specialist for RRL. When it comes to jeans and trends, Hall really knows what’s up, A dedicated denim head, he actually sits in a tub of freezing water with his jeans on to achieve some cool whiskers, and will walk around all day in wet jeans or abrades them with a nutmeg shaver to get the perfect worn-in look.  We’ve got a quick Q&A with Jason after the jump.

THAT'S WHAT'S UP: PAN FROM TRACE MAG

We caught up with Pan. editor at the transcultural style bible Trace last week and got to talking. As a staffer at Trace for several years, Pan is definitely on top of what's hot now and has shared some of his favorite things with us:

1. Although I enjoy a healthy diet of the latest hip-hop beef, I'm much more taken by the energy of Brazilian Baile Funk and the gravity of Nigerian Afro-beat, right about now...anyone with an inside track on cheap trips to either of these countries, I'm all friggin' ears.

2. I've always been a fan of independent film, and as an aspiring lensman myself, I've found recent inspiration in the visuals of Fernando Meirelles' City Of Men and Ramin Bahrani's Chop Shop.  Also, I always look forward to the ultra-stylish work of Korean director, Park Chan-wook, and his psychological thrillers.

APRIX ON SLAMXHYPE

Since we first heard of Aprix new line of footwear last year, I've been impressed and intrigued. The footwear released was in a timely fashion, simple, classic and of the highest quality and fitting with new trends within the industry, you could tell though, there was much more to it than fitting trends, there was a genuine feel to the brand and perhaps the reason why the product was so good. I decided to see if I could find out more and got hold of Michael AKA Skinny from Aprix Sports.

Q&A WITH MIKA

NY Times blog The Moment spoke with the rising British pop star Mika on the eve of his performance at the NRJ music awards in Cannes, France, where the bouncy, mop-headed singer had plenty of reasons to celebrate. To name a few: he’s about to kick off a short North American tour, Marc Jacobs named a bag from his spring collection “Mika,” and the 24 year old, Lebanese-born singer recently received his first Grammy nomination, for Best Dance Recording. To hear what the excitement is all about for yourself, check him out February 2nd when he plays at the Terminal 5 in New York. The last time we checked, tickets were sold out. Maybe Marc has a stash of tickets…Read the full interview here.

Q&A: Daniel from Fashion Indie

Continuing our Q&A with fellow fashion bloggers, we hit up Daniel at Fashion Indie -- and, quite frankly, I have no idea how he found the time to answer us. The man is on a mission ("Rome wasn't built in a day... If I'm gonna make Entrepreneur's Young Millionaires by 30 I need to hustle.") and he is definitely taking the media world by storm. Fashion Indie is an ever-growing network for all things indie: from LA to London, the site's numerous blogs feature news on indie designers, musicians, and events. But blogging is not all Daniel does all day -- find out about his side projects, like Trendible.com, his super secret plans for January, and his warning for Anna Wintour after the jump.
