SAVILE ROW ON BBC

Currently delighting British tailoring fetishists: Savile Row, a three-part BBC documentary that goes behind-the-curtains with London's finest tailors, from Richard Anderson to the blokes from Henry Poole. Among the highlights: watching Row vets look on in horror as Abercrombie & Fitch opens its English flagship down the street, only to come around (kind of) after A&F owner Mike Jeffries stops by Norton & Sons for a suit—wearing flip-flops, of course. Unfortunately there's no word yet on when (or if) BBC America plans to air it, but bootleg videos are floating around online. Or so we're told.

BLACKWELL'S WORST DRESSED LIST 2007 IS OUT

VOGUE.COM REPORTS: "SHE may have won Marc Jacobs' latest campaign but Victoria Beckham's style hasn't impressed acerbic fashion commentator Mr Blackwell - who has awarded the Spice Girl the number one spot on his Worst Dressed of 2007 list. "In one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty 'Posh' can really wreck-em," Blackwell notes in his 48th annual rundown of the year's fashion losers, published today. In second place, Karl Lagerfeld's new muse Amy Winehouse gets a dressing down for her "exploding beehives above, tacky polka-dots below," with "tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane" Mary-Kate Olsen coming a close third.." HARSH!

MEDIA: A NEW FASHION MOMENT

The NY Times style magazine, T has long been one of our favorite publications that existed without a blog...until now. The magazine has launched a new online presence, called The Moment, which will add a daily dose of fashion insidery tidbits that so far have proven to be a great read and a fresh perspective on fashion and its peripheral scenes. This week Proenza Schouler's Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough interview some of their friends in the biz in a series of daily posts, and there's a sneak preview of the New Museum downtown (from before it opened!).  Check it out when you have a moment! You'll be glad you did!

FASHION EDITORS. THEYRE JUST LIKE US!!!

The major fashion editors at all the big papers-- Cathy Horyn of the NYT, Hilary Alexander of UK's Telegraph, and Teri Agins of the Wall Street Journal, for example, all have blogs. And we've found that they are just like us!!! While the blogs at WSJ  and the Telegraph are dedicated to coverage of the shows, (which wouldnt make it into the main paper) and fashion advice, and We especially can't live without Cathy Horyn's (pictured left) blog. She really lets us into her world, and we get a glimpse at what it's like to be a front row editor travelling the world covering all the major shows, hobnobbing with the world's top designers and just being alone in a strange city on what is essentially as very glamorous business trip. This week, Horyn shouts out her favorite place to get a late nite cheeseburger in Paris, drops in on friend Rei Kawakubo having breakfast, and rats out Karl Lagerfeld for hating on Balenciaga. Don't miss it.

MEDIA WHORE: WHO'S BEST IN AD PAGES? & MENS MAGAZINES SKEW OLDER

DNR reports that men’s magazines are skewing older, now that many laddie magazines like FHM and Stuff have shut their doors, Reaching an older, affluent man is now a priority for many magazines. Now even GQ and Esquire are considered almost too young, as titles reaching an older, more sophisticated guy like Men's Vogue and Best Life hit the stands. Even Maxim is trying to shed some of its bad boy content and attract a more mature, successful reader. Read the full story here.

In a related story, DNR ranks the top 10 mens magazines by increase in ad pages. "The men’s magazine arena lost Stuff and FHM in the past year, but the competition for ad dollars remains stiff. Men’s Vogue has upped its frequency to 10 times a year, and Details and Complex both added an extra issue this year. Best Life continues on its rapid growth path, while Men’s Journal will record its best year ever in 2007" Click here to see the leading men’s magazines ranked by ad-page growth through October.

MAGAZINE NEWS: GQ AT 50

If you are anything like us, you did not attend GQ's gala last week to celebrate its 50th year, but you did receive the 50th anniversary issue in the mail this week. The magazine has several cover options, and celebrates the 50 most stylish men of the past 50 years. There are 10 different covers (collect them all!) featuring sartorial icons such as Al Pacino, Muhammad Ali, Sean Connery, Michael Jordan, Paul Newman,  Jack Nicholson,Tom Brady, Johnny Depp, Robert Redford and JFK (which is already selling on eBay for upwards of $10 a pop!). See a slideshow of the 50 of the past 50 at gq.com. It's a fun read or a good study break when things get a little slow at the office. We've got a few of our favorite style icons after the jump.

We love a good cause, so we were happy to learn that with this issue GQ has gotten involved in charitable causes, launching The Gentlemen's Fund. It will also involve the GQ Mobile text-messaging service and in-store events, reports today's NYT. John Legend has donated his time and reputation to be the spokesman, and will encourage people to make donations online, to buy merchandise from participating brands and from eBay auctions. All proceeds are to benefit five organizations in areas like education, men’s health and the environment.

MAGAZINE NEWS: RICHIE RICH

I can’t ever recall an issue of Nylon that I didn’t find myself in love with. There is this decidedly edgy flair to the mag which gives it total kitsch factor—much like this month’s cover girl, Nicole Richie. I can honestly say that I don’t ever remember reading anything about the girl that wasn’t a product of the mind of somebody down at InTouch or other tabloids for those not fortunate enough to have lives of their own. However, this month, one of our favorite super-waifs gets a chance to show the world that she’s not who you think she is—at all. Unless you already knew that she was a precociously charming, witty little thing who could care less what you think of her, because then, you’d be right on the money. (VJ-R)

FASHION GETS IQONS

IQONS
First there was My Space, then there was Facebook. Now there's IQONS-- an online networking site for the fashion community. "It is the perfect moment, since fashion is sort of stagnant and people are familiar with user-generated content. IQONS brings high authorities of the fashion industry to participate on the network and help people promote their talent," founder Rafael Jimenez tells JC Report. "IQONS is visual and it is a trend observatory as opposed to Friendster and Facebook, which are mostly about connecting people and making friends." Read the full story here.
