FROM THE DESK OF ... ALEXANDER OLCH

The Alexander Olch collection of fine silk, cashmere, woolen, and cotton neckties injects something unconventional into the conventional world of luxury neckwear.  Combining old world craftsmanship with a unique modern style, each Alexander Olch necktie is originally designed and handmade with a fine slip stitch for a full knot and complete look throughout. Olch's collection of ties can be seen here. His desk , pictured here, is the subject of a feature on A Continuous Lean.

UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK

Just flipping through my record collection for some style inspiration… Amazing how the Americana-mined look of some of the classic rock bands is relevant once again… We've got some old and some new after the jump.

MARILYN MINTER X SUPREME

New York powerhouse streetwear brand Supreme has teamed up with fashion photographer Marilyn Minter to create a series of 3 limited edition skateboards, which are available starting 04.10.08... "In the late 70's after pursuing her MFA at Syracuse University, Minter moved to NYC where she taught at a Catholic boys school and became mixed up with the NY club scene. These experiences influenced her return to the Art world and in 1989 she produced her first show, which was inspired by hardcore pornography.… Like the Jeff Koons and Richard Prince decks from last year, I'm sure these will sell out in record time. BEHANCE NETWORK FOR CREATIVES

Tim from Coolhunting turned us on to the Behance network for creative professionals and the company has been on our radar ever since. There’s a great interview with the company’s founder, Scott Belsky on the JC Report. Read all about this unique company and how it’s seeking to help the creative community become more productive: You might have been unwittingly introduced to Behance when a colleague whipped out one of their nifty action notebooks, but these cleverly designed pads tailored to maximize creative output are just part of the brand's larger mission, which is all about connecting creatives and making ideas happen.
Recently named as one of the most exclusive online networks by BusinessWeek, Behance promotes a philosophy of doing through its network of top-tier creatives, an ongoing series of action-oriented articles, a suite of well-designed work products and a forthcoming global directory.

JAPANESE SCHOOL UNIFORMS ON PINGMAG

Fashion purists take note! PingMag has a great write-up on the history of the Japanese School Uniform. Its history goes way back - "The school uniform, seifuku, in Japan started over a hundred years ago, in the Meiji period. According to the Tombow Uniform Museum, first a more formal kimono, shirt and hakama combination was selected by the Ministry of Education, to “escalate” the profile of students." Though not dedicated to menswear, this story is a very nice read into one aspect of Japanese culture that many in the Western world seem to obsess over. And for those looking to buy your own modern Japanese school uniform, visit Conomi! (Selectism)

EASTER STYLE

Damn! we knew we should have gone to the Easter Parade! I'm sure there were plenty of dandies just letting loose on Fifth Ave in all their pastel finery. Our friend Mordechai, aka Mister Mort sent us this photo of one of the more, ahem, interesting looks.

WTAPS NEW WEBSITE

With his hands in everything, from his free paper, Philosphy Zine, his numerous collaborations with NEIGHBORHOOD and Honeyee.com, It was always difficult to keep track of what designer Tetsu “Tet” Nishiyama’s been up to with his own label, WTAPS. Starting today, it might be easier to do so as WTAPS begin to operate its own website. With basic information, design philosophy, store listing, and a brief look book for the 1st collection for 2008, titled Extreme Prejudice, all on a expansive white backdrop. Best of all, the site is available in both English and Japanese. (Freshness)

NAUTICAL'S NICE AT FREE & EASY

Spring is in the air, and that always makes us want to dress nautical. Apparently some people in Japan get a whiff of salt air and put on their navy blues too! The current issue of a Japanese magazine called Free & Easy takes an obsessive approach to American naval styles. The mag is totally thorough with tons of pictures and commentary. Check it out here.

MR MORT'S RULES TO LIVE BY

Via Dejour: This is the inaugural edition of what will be an ongoing series featuring the sartorial sapience and practical wisdom of the many men that Dejour respect, admire, and secretly wish we were.  Our first dispatch comes from Mr. Mort himself, Mordechai S. Rubenstein, Jack Spade’s magnificent mouthpiece and all-round exemplary New Yorker.

A man should always be genuine.                   A man should never don women’s jeans.
A man Is in serious trouble when wearing a shirt untucked with a tie before midnight.
More after the jump.

SAVILE ROW ON BBC

Currently delighting British tailoring fetishists: Savile Row, a three-part BBC documentary that goes behind-the-curtains with London's finest tailors, from Richard Anderson to the blokes from Henry Poole. Among the highlights: watching Row vets look on in horror as Abercrombie & Fitch opens its English flagship down the street, only to come around (kind of) after A&F owner Mike Jeffries stops by Norton & Sons for a suit—wearing flip-flops, of course. Unfortunately there's no word yet on when (or if) BBC America plans to air it, but bootleg videos are floating around online. Or so we're told.

INSPIRATION: THERE WILL BE BLOOD

The rugged, tailored looks in the film There Will Be Blood are totally now! We were getting Obedient Sons meets Steven Alan vibes as we sat in the theater. The movie was good, too. But the costumes were totally inspiring. We've got a few looks after the jump.
