RIZZO AT PAUL SMITH

Paul Smith is hosting an exhibition in his Mayfair, London shop dedicated to the work of world-renowned photographer and revered furniture designer, Willy Rizzo. Rizzo, one of the most influential photographers of the 1960’s, shot to fame with his photographs of Hollywood icons such as Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot and Gene Kelly. His inimitable talent enabled him to capture his subjects in unexpected and insightful poses never seen before. Rizzo soon became a name amongst the fashion set – his portrait shots of Yves Saint-Laurent, Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and Pierre Cardin were unequalled and he soon became a regular photographer for such esteemed titles as Vogue, Harpers and Paris Match.

Having reached a pinnacle in the world of photography, Rizzo turned his hand to furniture design and over the next decade he made some of the most stunning and striking pieces of furniture of the 1970’s. His celebrity friends snapped up piece after piece making his work much sought after and highly collectible.  This winter, in association with Mallett, Paul Smith is delighted to be exhibiting a rare collection of Rizzo’s photographs and furniture in his Mayfair shop. Rizzo, now in his 80s, has returned to furniture design for the first time in decades to create a limited edition picture frame especially for this touring exhibition.
