KEY ITEM: JEFF STAPLE X LEVIS JAPAN

As reported on High Snobiety, the Levi's Japan x Jeff Staple denim is out.  Details such as the 2-Horse Back Patch in metal, Jeff Staple signature on the inside and the iconic "pigeon crap" and Pigeon, that we saw already on Staple Nike SB's, New Eras and t-shirts, also made it onto the denim, thankfully at a hidden place.  It's available now at Tab Device and Elesco in Tokyo. And soon, limited pieces at Reed Space. Check out more detailed pictures here.

Q&A: THREADLESS on PSFK

Threadless.com has been a household name since 2000 among graphic-designers and t-shirt savvy hipsters. The originator of "cluster marketing"  the site allows people to post T-shirt designs and the general public votes on their faves. The ones with the most votes get manufactured and sold on the site. PSFK caught-up with Threadless’ Chief Creative Officer, Jeffrey Kalmikoff, and asked him a couple questions.  Read the full interview here.

J LINDEBERG TO DESIGN WILLIAM RAST

Fashion often makes some strange bedfellows, and we when Justin Timberlake announced that he had signed Johan Lindeberg to design his William Rast collection, we were totally surprised. Not that we don't think it's a great idea. Timberlake definitely knows what he likes when it comes to style, and J. Lindeberg is a fashion leader. Here's the deal, as reported by DNR. "The pop star has signed up the Swedish designer, best known as the founder and creative director of fashion label J. Lindeberg, to a three-year contract to design a full-scale contemporary collection under the William Rast label. To be launched at Coterie and Project Las Vegas this winter for fall ’08 retailing, the new men’s and women’s lines will move William Rast beyond its core five-pocket denim business.
Lindeberg will design the men’s sportswear collection, while his wife, Marcella, will design the women’s wear component. The husband-and-wife team moved to New York this past summer and set up an independent design firm, Paris68 (named after the student revolts in that city in May 1968), while Lindeberg continues to oversee creative direction of his namesake label. William Rast is Paris68’s first client."

RETAIL: THE CAST SPEAKEASY OPENS

NY-based menswear collective The Cast opened a store this weekend in NY's LES. The shop, which they're calling a "speakeasy" has requisite mens-y decor- a few deer heads, lots of rustic wood accents, and plenty of hooch to keep its clientele happy and warm as they shop for denim, leather, fine woolens, vintage books, and accessories from Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons.

STREET PICS: STREET CLASH

Awesome! We just discovered that there's a whole world of street style just battling it out for world supremacy! STREET CLASH is an international style competition between blogs & photographers around the world. At the end, one city will be named best dressed 2007. 38 cities have been going chapeau to chapeau, with participating blogs submitting photos of some of their best street styles. Then visitors to the site get to vote on their favorite looks. The event is organized tournament style and is nearing the finals, with some surprising contenders. While NY and Paris got knocked out early on, Minneapolis and Tel Aviv have their eyes on the prize. Check it out here-- Monday's competition features Glasgow vs Tallinn (that's in the very tony Estonia, FYI) and rock your vote!

RETAIL: BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB OPENS IN SOHO

If you've been living under a rock, you may not be aware of the fact that Nigo and Pharrell have opened their first BBC store in the US, (after Tokyo and HK)  selling Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream gear on West Broadway in Soho this week. A doorman with a velvet rope kept the hundreds of fans waiting outside patiently as he let in a few at a time, club-style. The first floor of the 2000 sf shop features Ice Cream hoodies tees and sneakers and even smells of waffle cones! The clothes are displayed in freezers and giant cereal boxes. The second floor, complete with planetarium-style decor  is where the Billionaire Boys Club, is sold.  We've got some more pics after the jump.

Q&A: Saint Agnes from Worship Worthy

For hip New Yorkers (or anyone who wishes they were one), Worship Worthy is the blog to visit for daily updates on lifestyle, fashion, and event news. The trend forecasting site has regular features including Hail Mary (profiles of admirable NYC women in fashion or the arts), Temptations to Heist (a sort of photo collage of must-have trends), and The Confessional (interviews with a woman on the Hail Mary list) in addition to showcasing info on current downtown events and blurbs on their favorite things. Editorial director (who calls herself Saint Agnes on the site) gives us the lowdown on the blog and more after the jump.

Posted by Laura Kenkel

Q: What is the concept behind Worship Worthy?
A: We’re an online daily newsletter that keeps our readers up to date on the latest lifestyle, fashion, and event news in downtown New York.  It’s a think tank or trend forecasting service for a lot of people, too.  We originally launched as a female-focused site but we have a growing male audience.  We also do sales and PR for different brands but we’re REALLY selective of which ones we work with.  As well, we do brand consulting, creative direction, and design projects, I’m currently working on a project for Nike bags and we have our own line of apparel launching very soon.  Between me and my partners, we pretty much do it all!

Q: What is your background?
A: I’ve been designing clothing and accessories since 1998, mostly for streetwear brands such as Triple 5 Soul, Zoo York, Aem’Kei... And have freelanced for almost every streetwear or urban brand you can think of- Blue Marlin, Rocawear, Staple, House of Dereon, etc.  I grew up submerged in streetwear but have outgrown it quite a bit.  I know all aspects of design- conceptualizing, colors, fabric, garment construction, tech design, and production... I’m an Adobe Illustrator expert.

Q: What do you do when you're not working on Worship Worthy?
A: I’m the Director of Operations for the newly relaunched Haze clothing brand.  Eric Haze does the graphics and I design the clothing and do production, sales, PR, and everything in between.   We make a good team!  Worship Worthy takes up more of my time though, there’s so many things going on right now.  Both my partners have full time jobs, one does production for Supreme and the other works for a PR company.

Q: What trend do you like right now?
A: I absolutely love riding boots right now, it’s my obsession on ebay everyday.  I’m exercising self control though, and not buying anything til I can really reward myself.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: Typically, I start work around 10 and because I work from home sometimes if I feel like it I’ll go for a jog at the McCarren Park track (other times I just think about it!). I’ve been visiting more showrooms lately and I’m always digging for brands or news or sorting through all the press releases we receive, planning an event, or designing.  I feel like I’m always writing, emailing and photoshopping.  When I’m not working I veg out in front of the TV watching brainless reality shows. I’m always hanging out with my man and go out with my girlfriends about once a week.

Q: What are your favorite designers, bands, cities?
A: My favorite designers are mostly indie and “avant garde” ones- Alexander Herchcovitch, Henrik Vibskov, Gareth Pugh, Jeremy Scott-  though I’m usually a t-shirt and jeans girl.  The Runaways have always been one of my favorite bands not just because of their music but their style and attitude.  But I like all types of music.  Favorite cities: Negril, Phuket, New York.

Q: Any advice for other bloggers?
A: Keep blogging about what interests you... Original content is key!

Q: Anything else?
A: Subscribe to Our Daily Bread: www.worshipworthy.com and make sure to check out our whole crew of bloggers on www.riottt.com/worshipworthyriot.

Two of our favorite stores, SevenNewYork and Bblessing have got some exciting new collections in stock now. Check out their offerings after the jump and if you're in NY make sure you stop by the shops and indulge in some retail therapy!

CASSETTE PLAYA at SEVEN

Bleached blond and bespectacled Carrie Mundane, the designer behind London Rave revival Cassette Playa, offers up only fluro printed tees for A/W 2007 as she didn't anticipate the success of her prior collection and was caught off guard. Call it an 'in-between' collection as Cassette is back with a proper collection for Spring 2008 and it's off the hook! Trust! (Hint: heat sensitive color changing fabrics and Nike endorsements). www.cassetteplaya.com

KSUBI AT SEVEN

Our favorite brand from the land down under delivers improved denim fabrications and cuts in addition to color offerings we haven't seen from anyone else (teal anyone?), as well as a super fun apparel collection embracing such cheesy icons as Vanilla Ice, renderings of classical composers done in heavy metal band fonts, and other assorted madness. www.ksubi.com

BRUNO PIETERS AT SEVEN

Former Swiss Textiles Award winner and Antwerp Royal Academy trained Bruno Pieters was inspired by the lovely and late Tina Chow, the '80s New York socialite, Warhol muse, and couture collector for his Womens A/W 2007 collection. Pieters applies couture precision in his tailoring (his first two shows were presented during Paris Couture Week) and is lauded for his structure and knitwear. This season he also debuted his first menswear collection of elegantly tailored sportswear as well! www.brunopieters.com

SHOWROOM SPECIAL: SPRING ROUNDUP

The spring selling season is all wrapped up, and we asked some of the market's top showrooms to tell us what were their best booking styles, and classifications. After the jump we've got answers from The Vanguard- Museum Group, & Re:Change Showroom. Check back for more showrooms next week!

MUSEUM-VANGUARD GROUP

The Everybody Mid Parachute, from alife,

Sold at: Barney's ( NYC), Saks (NYC) and Vinnies Styles (Brooklyn.)

What classifications are selling best?
Our best selling classifications thus far have been footwear, tees and we are beginning to get a bite on accessories.  I believe commodity items are the easiest purchases right now at wholesale and retail. Under $200.00 seems to be the magic price point in this very tough retail environment.
What do you expect to do well in 2008?
I expect footwear to continue to be the holy grail heading into 2008 and I also believe accessories will become a more important part of the market for consumers and retailers.  I would love for cut and sew become a greater focus for brands and consumers heading into ‘08 as many brands are doing great things to traditional silhouettes.

MUSEUM GROUP curator, Dre Hayes

Guerra - cornflower in marigold plaid, from Keep,

Wholesale price: $42.50

Sold at Classic Kicks, NYC

Navy Dicocco from Creative Recreation

Wholesale price: $65.

Sold at: Atrium, Wish, Lulu Couture, and Bloomingdales

Vicious Bellz Jacket Blue, Black
Retail:  $128
Available at:  Revolve Clothing, Union NYC, Commonwealth

What are the best selling classifications  or trends right now? Throwback 80's cut and sew jackets from Hells Bellz, High tops for women have been hitting the streets hard, anything organic - the whole green movement! We are also seeing a trend where the market is getting a little bit cleaner, color is  still important but we are seeing customers gravitate towards a  cleaner look. What classifications or trends are you expecting for fall '08?
I think colors will be richer and more sophisticated.  And there will be a use of unconventional fabrics for more avant garde looks. Fall 08 is going to be a great season for footwear.  The market has been so all over the place where consumers are looking for new styles and brands.  High tops will still be a big trend as well as more earth tone colors.  Boots will also be big this season, we have a lot of great ammo for Fall 08 and it’s the perfect time because there has been such a lull in the boot market the past 2 years.

RE:CHANGE
Owner Patrick Goodspeed
What are your best selling styles?

My best selling item is always Japanese, selvage denim from Kicking

Mule Workshop.

Retail price, $325.

Sold at: Odin (New York), and Douglas Fir (Los Angeles).

What classifications are selling best?

My best trend is raw, handmade denim but it's a big part of what my

showroom focus is- so I don't expect it to change too soon.

What do you expect to do well in 2008?

For fall 2008 I'm expecting a continuation of luxury work-wear &

street-wear from the US and Japan.

EVENT: JOHNNIE WALKER ETCHING PARTY

Limited edition product is not just for sneakers these days. Johnnie Walker has a number of limited edition blends, including the 1805 Edition-- the most limited blend of Johnnie Walker ever created with only 200 individually numbered bottles in existence. There’s also Blue Label, which is created from the most unique and premium whiskies in the world. Blue Label is also known as the whisky for connoisseurs, and as such, each bottle is individually numbered. Last week the company threw a celeb studded bash at the Time Warner Center in Manhattan to announce the arrival of their custom engraving kiosks. Bring your bottle of Johnnie here and custom engrave it with any type of message in a number of languages.  Jamie Lynn Siegler, Adrien Grenier, Maria Menounos, Josh Lucas and Rocco DiSpirito all came through to get their buzz on while getting customized, etched bottles. Some celeb sightings after the jump.
