Runway Report: L.A.M.B

Gwen Stefani knows how to make a hoodie look chic

LAMB 1.jpg

In her s/s 2007 show for L.A.M.B., which she designed with partner Zaldy, Gwen Stefani showed a mixture of  fitted hoodies, sporty tracksuits, glamorous dresses and sexy shorts.

For the downtown career gal who always sets the style at work, at the club, and the weekends, L.A.M.B. offers fashion for the cutting edge contemporary customer.

*The collection was accessorized with a new line of bags including totes clutches and purses.

*Geometric print dresses in both long and knee length ranged from demure to sexy.

*Flowing trouser jeans looked fresh.

*Brightly colored track suits were a sure fire hit and styles ranges from sophisticated black and white animal prints to brightly colored red and yellow nylon examples.

*Shorts looked great paired with a suit jacket and heels or a T-shirt.

*Each look was chicly accessorized with Stefani’s new “disco shoes” or sporty high heeled ankle boots.

CHECK THIS BRAND:

 troglodyte.JPG

Troglodyte Homunculus

The name takes a bit of practice, but the collection, inspired by British blue-collar workers of the ‘50s and ‘60s, is comprised of easy, updated classic men’s sportswear – carefully crafted weathered woven shirts, beautifully designed blazers and jackets, and five pocket trousers are key classifications here. The brand is the casual arm of luxe men’s wear brand Seize Sur Vingt, and is designed with a similar attention to quality and made in the same Italian factories as its upscale older brother. www.troglodytehomunculus.com

VMA STYLE WATCH

Our favorite men's wear style statements from the VMAs.

Justin_Timberlake[1].jpg

Was anyone out there inspired by VMA style? No one broke the style barrier with anything earth shatteringly new, and most guys wore either sweatshirts and jeans. or rocked the dandy look. Here are some of our faves...

Fall Out Boy looked cute in their 3 piece suits and vests,

FallOutBoy[1].jpg

and Panic at the Disco rocked out with their goth dandy steez.

Andre 3000 stood out with his funky cropped trousers and boots and crisp white button front. Andre3000[1].jpg

Diddy looked chic in his tux

Bling was rampant, from an iced-out 50 Cent, to gold-dripping Coltrane Curtis on the red carpet. Kanye and Pharrell wore the requisite gold, and then there was Jack Black’s lame suit JackBlack[1].jpg 50CentLLCoolJ[1].jpg KanyeWest[2].jpg

Ask The Experts

We asked buyers and editors what key trends they’re looking for and what brands they love for spring 2007.

“Athletic and Sport- inspired was a huge theme on the European runways and I think will play an important role in the American Contemporary market, especially bright Olympic colors. I also love the return of the New England Preppy. I think what looks fresh now is: short sleeve plaid shirts, seersucker, raw denim, boat shoes, ‘Save the Whale’ T-shirt, A Filson bag, Ray-Ban aviators and a sailor’s knot bracelet.”
Brand picks:  Chip & Pepper University, 7 for all Mankind, Converse by John Varvatos
— Michael Macko, Vice President, Men's Fashion, Saks Fifth Avenue

Color—We can’t help loving the bright colors we’ve been seeing on the streets and on the runways.  Hook up a candy colored tee or track jacket with super brightly colored sneakers for a premium streetwear style. Downtown hipsters are more into super tight colored denim or grey denim overalls, worn with a deep V-neck tee and colored jazz shoes....  Shoes: Creative Recreation, Reebok, Ice Cream, Converse, Alife, adicolor, Jeffrey Campbell,...  Jeans: Cheap Monday, Iron Army, Bread Denim, Tsubi, Cockpit, Tripp NYC... Sportswear: Canterbury of New Zealand, Spoonfed, DSquared2, Rosasen, Prps, Free Gold Watch, Good Life, Lacoste, Yoko Devereaux.

White There’s always a risk you’ll look like an ice cream man when you wear it but crisp white is a dominant color for summer. From white denim to sheer white woven shirts, and clean white sneakers or jazz shoes, and especially outerwear. Shoes: Alife , JC, Keds, Converse, SpringCourt, Visvim... Sportswear: Warhol Factory x Levi’s, Cockpit, Save Khaki, Filippa K, Earnest Sewn, Hartford,  Lois
