The return of summer brings with it a lot of seasonal goodness — dining al fresco, ducking out of work early, long days at the beach, and of course, the hundreds of outdoor concerts that pop up across the country.  Making the season a little sweeter, classic outdoor apparel company Penfield has teamed up with fashion blog Refinery29 to give one lucky music fan a package of essential gear you need whether you’re road-tripping to Lollapalooza or camping out at Bonnaroo.  The kit consists of Penfield’s Big Bear t-shirt, Vernon cap, and 750 ml water bottle, all stored nicely into the sturdy Colrain backpack, and topped off with the 35th Anniversary Pac-Jac.  If that jacket looks familiar, it might be because Noel Gallagher used to sport it back in the 90′s hey day of Oasis.  There’s a man who knows a thing or two about a music festival.  Head over to Refinery29 for contest rules before the giveaway ends on Monday morning and check out the Penfield site for more from the brand.  (Emily Corbin)

2010 marks Penfield’s 35^th anniversary and the company has some special product on deck.. We’re looking forward to seeing the 35th Anniversary Original Pac-Jac Re-issue. This jacket was first released in the late 1980’s as Penfield’s lightweight trail jacket, designed to resist wind, chill and rain.  Penfield’s 35th anniversary re-issue of the Pac-Jac is true to the original style in every way, using exactly the same specifications from the original patterns from the Penfield archive. The Pac-Jac became an iconic style in the 80’s and was adopted by outdoor enthusiasts as a staple pack-away style. It also attracted interest from a number of high profile individuals including Noel Gallagher of Oasis and became an integral part of his signature look during this period.

We just came back from the Tents at Bryant Park– checked out the Duckie Brown show. It was quite a departure from the design duo’s signature color infused collections. Steven and Daniel used  palette of all black with just a hint of olive, eggplant or silver and the presentation, punctuated by a total lack of music made a real statement. The Duckies used some innovative fabrics, like coated cotton and rubberized leather and layered them with menswear classics like pinstripe, Prince of Wales check and cashmere. Silhouettes were progressive — low crotch pinstripe trousers, oversized suit jackets worn under sweaters, slim but chic trousers. The duo also unveiled 2 jackets done in collaboration with outerwear legend Penfield. There were lots of dapper dudes in attendance. Kanye West has developed a reputation and stylesetter thanks to his keen knowledge of fashion and fearless approach to his personal haberdash. We spotted this pic of Kanye sporting Penfield‘s Chatham plaid shirt during a recent match of Connect 4 for Beyonce. (They’re just like US!)
