Opening Ceremony, known for sponsoring designers of a different country each year, is changing their ways a bit this season. Because of all of the great collaborations going on at OC, Pendleton being one of them, the namesake line has decided to informally work with India. The line contains washed out linen, stripes, and great contrasting fabrics in keeping with Indian tradition. Patchwork elbows and denim lining detail are all key to updating the cotton linen blends. In honor of the 100 year anniversary of the Portland-based woolmaker, Opening Ceremony has updated the heritage brand, Pendleton, with their signature modern silhouettes. The Pendleton brand, known for their heavy-duty Native American inspired printed wools, is cooling down for spring/summer with some madras in Opening Ceremony classics. Pieces will consist of unisex sized menswear with a floral, feminine bent, as well as tapered slacks and baggy pants in tribal and Vibskov-like prints. There will also be shoes, in collaboration with Bass, ranging from loafers to creepers. The actress-cum-designer cites a diverse range of inspiration for the collection, including skinheads, Connecticut and New York City’s St. Mark’s Place. As long as the price is right, the collection is ripe for success with its diverse range of pieces and urban-hipster sensibility, perhaps more so than Sevigny’s acting career. – Haniya Riaz
Uniqlo’s been giving some of our favorite young designers some great exposure with its Designer Invitation Project, and this spring is no exception. Hitting stores will be some amazing collabos from Opening Ceremony, Steven Alan, Shipley & Halmos, and Gilded Age. Each will design a limited edition capsule collection for the Spring / Summer 2009 season. We’ve got a sneak peek at the menswear from Gilded Age and Opening Ceremony after the jump.
Opening Ceremony has been setting the bar for great retail in NY and LA for a few years now, and the company’s fashion label is right on trend, as well.
