Duckie Brown’s AW09 lookbook has hit the blogosphere, and as always, the look is totally energetic. We’re loving the dramatic photography and colors. More pages after the jump. (mensrag)
Duckie Brown fans have a great collaboration to look forward to. The menswear design label has teamed up with Florsheim, one of the oldest men’s shoe brands rooted in great quality and tradition. The shoes have the great technique of Florsheim shoes with the added appeal of Duckie Brown’s more adventurous design influences. The label pulled designs from the Florsheim archives and updated them with new colors and designs while retaining the meticulous inside and out finishing. Even better, the shoes are in between Florsheim’s and Duckie Brown’s price points, so more affordable for everyone. We have more pics after the jump!
Florsheim by Duckie Brown will be making its trade show debut at (capsule) next week, but we were treated to a sneak peek of the collection today. Refinery reports: The story of the collaboration line between Florsheim and Duckie Brown begins with a prom. See, 18-year-old Robert Asch, short on funds and tall in taste, wrote Duckie Brown founders Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, desperate for a decent suit for his senior prom. The designers were happy to oblige and suggested that he pick up a pair of Florsheims to complement his new duds. The century-old shoe company heard of the story and reached out to the pair. The result is a collection of tastefully retro saddle shoes, loafers, and wingtips that mines Florsheim’s history without being stodgy and ranging from a reasonable $195 to $595. While our lady friends have been going legging wild for a few years already, it’s about time us men make them our own. Leggings for men. Call them Meggings! Earlier this summer Givenchy’s Ricardo Tisci blew us away with his gothic-chic leggings layered under shorts in everything from black leather and lace to fuchsia and nude cotton (left). While Tisci presented the fashion forward piece scrunched just below the knee, Duckie Brown’s cleaner, more athletic look was equally groundbreaking. The black matte leggings were used throughout the collection being paired with everything from suit jackets with matching trouser shorts cut below the knee, or with a preppier gray short sleeve button-up and yellow shorts. How will you wear you leggings come Spring 09? -Andrew Mukamal

First there was Alexander McQueen for Samsonite, then there was Thom Browne for Brooks Brothers. Now the latest edgy designer to team up with a traditional menswear brand is Duckie Brown. In the fashion industry’s latest odd-couple pairing, century-old shoe company Florsheim, known for its wingtips, has chosen edgy menswear designer Duckie Brown, known for its sequins, to create a line of men’s dress shoes, reports the Wall Street Journal. Florsheim executives learned of the Duckie Brown team from an item in the New Yorker magazine this past June about a New Jersey high-school senior who asked the designers to make a prom suit for him; they did — and sent along a pair of Florsheim shoes that they had used in a runway show for him to wear with it. The Duckie Brown label has annual sales of only $1 million and is carried in only about 18 stores world-wide. Mr. Florsheim says the company considered bigger names but decided to go with an "up-and-coming" designer brand "that’s a little less predictable." (WSJ)

We just came back from the Tents at Bryant Park– checked out the Duckie Brown show. It was quite a departure from the design duo’s signature color infused collections. Steven and Daniel used palette of all black with just a hint of olive, eggplant or silver and the presentation, punctuated by a total lack of music made a real statement. The Duckies used some innovative fabrics, like coated cotton and rubberized leather and layered them with menswear classics like pinstripe, Prince of Wales check and cashmere. Silhouettes were progressive — low crotch pinstripe trousers, oversized suit jackets worn under sweaters, slim but chic trousers. The duo also unveiled 2 jackets done in collaboration with outerwear legend Penfield. There were lots of dapper dudes in attendance. We’ve got pics of some of the coolest fashion statements after the jump.
Duckie Brown shows are always super fun and last night’s presentation was no exception. We love the way Steven Cox and Daniel Silver play with color, proportion and shape in way that’s still wearable. There were some bold florals at the SS08 presentation, as well as some amazing suits that were almost traditional, but still somewhat oversized, with a slighly dropped crotch that still looked good. All in all the show presented a fresh approach to menswear that is both fun and classic. In fact, they called the presentation Classical Duckie, possibly in an attempt to convey their desire to create their most wearable collection to date.
