April 77 Records, the funkier line of April 77, is taking inspiration from the classic icons of rock. The shirts feature smaller collars, western details, and general rockstar mentality. In anticipation of the Paris Capsule Show (June 26-28th), we’ll be publishing profiles of each participating brand. First up is APRIL77, which will premiere both the S/S 09 collection of its self-titled fashion label, and a new music and clothing label, APRIL77RECORDS. The original label’s collection begs the question, “Did we really get on the moon?” with a theme of “Apollo Program Was a Hoax” – indicative of APRIL77’s strong, characteristic attitude. APRIL77RECORDS is a continuation of the original, yet its rock-and-roll inspired silhouettes with be accompanied by a monthly 7′’ vinyl record featuring a different band. French fashion and denim label April77 is launching its own music label, April77Records (april77records.com) . Conceived as both a record label and a clothing line the brand will release good old traditional vinyl records – A side and B side – of a different band each month. Now the brand’s motto "We used to be about music, now we are music" really rings true.
Vintage record label and denim producer April 77 has just taken up residence in a retail space right down the block from the company’s headquarters. Designer Brice Partouche tapped interiors guru Steven Thomas after reading a book on Biba, the ’70s retail monolith that Thomas also designed. The circular space recalls a turntable with its dark vinyl’esque floors and gleaming steel beams, a choice that complements Partouche’s rock-n-roll-inspired, super-skinny unisex denim styles and fitted double-breasted blazers. Vintage radios are stashed throughout the displays to further address the line’s affinity for beats. Via Refinery29/Selectism
Paris-based April77 is more than just a jeans brand. Founded in 2002 by Brice Partouche, April77 is a tribute to rock culture and its way of life. Getting its inspiration from the underground scene, the label stands out through style and creativity. The brand’s tight cuts in raw denim are a favorite with hipster rock bands including The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Iggy Pop and The Horrors.
