Korean designer Wooyoungmi showed her FW10 collection in Paris yesterday, focusing on layered outwear, suiting and knitwear. Created with an eye toward communicating via clothing in the way silent-era film stars used exaggerated style to portray character, the collection played with an oversized, dramatic silhouette and quirky accessories like felt bow ties and detached bibs. The gray, black and slate blue palette was complemented by white, cream and oxblood highlights and a “study of texture,” with “fluffy trousers, over-sized knits, layered jackets and coats” in quilted wool and cashmere. Twenty-piece brass band Texas Couscous provided the soundtrack for the presentation at the Hôtel Intercontinental Le Grand, bringing some street style to the refined setting and Wooyoungmi’s classic approach to modern clothing.
